Peter Sawyer FRICS

Auctioneer

Born and bred in Stone in Staffordshire I joined Charles Butters & Sons straight from College in 1975 when we had only three offices and a dozen or so employee.

I qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 1977 and became a Partner of the firm in 1980.

I helped oversee the massive expansion of the firm to what it is now, including opening new offices, the amalgamation in 2001 with John A Bee & Co to become Butters John Bee and the relocation of the Head Office in 2004 to Festival Park, Stoke-on-Trent.

In 2000 I took over the running of the Property Auction Department with the brief to expand and grow it which hopefully I achieved as we are now recognised as one of the leading Auction Houses outside London and the South East. We regularly appear on the popular BBC television series Homes under the Hammer.

I used to be a keen footballer (playing for the Shamblers) and also enjoyed water skiing and windsurfing. However these days things are a little more sedate with golf and walking my main pastimes. I am also a season ticket holder at Stoke City who I have supported through thick and thin for a life time - although at times it seems much longer than that!

I am married to Elaine who is a drama teacher and a keen amateur actress. We have two daughters, Ella who, like her mother, is also a drama teacher and actress and Tamsin who is training to be a solicitor in Manchester.

Now you know why I am prematurely deaf! I retired from the Partnership in 2008 although was persuaded to continue as the Property Auctioneer as I have a wealth of rostrum experience and have brought the gavel down on 1000’s of lots over the years.
