Born, raised and educated in the Potteries, I qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Peat Marwick Mitchell (now KPMG) in 1982 before moving into industry in 1984, when I joined a PLC as Group Financial Controller spending several years in London in the finance and tax departments of the group.
My roles have concentrated on the financial and corporate aspects of service and manufacturing companies. Whilst in London, I was heavily involved in many group acquisitions, including Vernons Pools (purchased for £105m). In later years my work has been with growth companies, where cash flow and tight controls have been essential.
Since joining BJB as Finance Director in 2003, my projects have included the installation of IT systems and implementation of financial controls and reporting procedures at our branches. More recently, I have introduced a new service to clients, 'capital allowances in property', which involves quantifying and valuing certain assets in commercial property, so owners can make significant tax savings.
Married to Carole for 27 years, we have a daughter, who graduated from Lincoln University in 2008. I am a keen follower of most things sporting and enjoy gardening and eating out.
