Living in Northwich

According to The Sunday Times, Northwich is one of the best places to live in the UK. Located about 18 miles east of Chester and 15 miles south of Warrington, and with the Rivers Weaver and Dane running through the town, Northwich offers a superb combination of vibrant culture and glorious countryside.

The town boasts excellent community facilities such a theatre, gymnasiums, swimming baths, a museum and extensive parks and gardens. It is also currently undergoing a major redevelopment at Barons Quay.

Northwich town centre has a good selection of well-known retail chains and well-established independent traders. It also holds a three-day market housed in both a spacious retail market hall and a more traditional outdoor covered market. With nearly 60 specialist shops and stalls offering a vast array of products catering for all needs and tastes, it is a wonderful place to shop or just browse.  Barons Quay is a new shopping centre opening in 2017.

The Great Outdoors

Northwich is an ideal base for outdoor activity thanks to its proximity to the fabulous Delamere Forest, Tatton Park, Oulton Park, Beeston Castle and the many canals, rivers, pretty towns and stunning villages nearby. Explore Northwich Woodlands, an area of verdant and accessible parkland measuring over 350 hectares or, for some canal and river history, visit the Anderton Boat Lift exhibition centre with its gift shop and tearoom.

Food and Drink

There is a huge choice available for foodies in Northwich with a multitude of pubs, bars and restaurants. Why not try the Cheshire Bar and Grill for cocktails, Kanya Café Bar & Bistro for private dining and events, or Blue Cap for traditional pub food, well-kept ales and leisurely Sunday lunches. Or perhaps grab a picnic blanket and participate in the annual Great British Food Festival in the stunning gardens at Arley Hall.  Barons Quay will provide bars, cafes and restaurants.

Almost every leisure activity is catered for in Northwich. Brio Leisure at Northwich Memorial Court is a brand new leisure and entertainment centre with two swimming pools and a large gym. The main hall, with full stage, sound and lighting systems, is perfect for all manner of events, including comedy nights, live music, shows and conventions. The new Odeon Cinema opens in December 2016.

Schools in Northwich

The Grange School at Hartford is one of the UK’s finest private schools, topping independent schools’ polls again and again. With both junior and senior schools and just a stone’s throw from Northwich town centre, it’s no surprise that families put roots down here and simply never leave. A high ratio of alternative high schools, academy schools, colleges, primary schools and nurseries provides education at all levels.

Commuting and Transport

Northwich enjoys an enviable location with easy access to Manchester, Chester and Warrington. Northwich station offers a direct train service to Manchester Piccadilly, taking exactly an hour, with direct trains to Birmingham New Street and Liverpool Lime Street.   Hartford station is another outstanding commuting hub, with direct trains to Birmingham New Street taking just over one hour. Northwich also has a bus station serving the local towns and villages and Manchester International Airport is under 20 miles away.
